All Anaesthetists are Fellows of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and are highly experienced in their field covering all surgical specialities including Orthopaedic, Paediatric, Neurosurgical, Plastics, Ear Nose and Throat, Gastroenterology, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Ophthalmic surgery. Background
The majority of Dr Allen’s professional life has been
spent in Brisbane following
completion of his medical degree at the University of
Queensland. He commenced
his anaesthetic training in Epsom, England and completed
training in Brisbane,
Australia. Dr Allen’s provisional fellowship year was in
Paediatric Intensive Care at
the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide. He
briefly held the position of
Director of Anaesthesia at the Nambour General Hospital
but now solely a private
practitioner in Brisbane. In recent years he has been
more involved in medical
student training with the University of Queensland.

Background
After graduation, Dr Moo completed his early years at
the Mater, before a period of rural service in Mt Isa
and Weipa . He subsequently spent 15 months in
Antarctica as the 1987 Medical Officer at the Australian
Casey Station.
On returning to Australia, he decided to pursue a career
in anaesthesia and after training in a number of major
teaching Hospitals across SE Queensland, and at
Gloucester in the UK, he obtained his Fellowship in
1996.
Since then, he has continued to work in the public
sector where he is currently a senior visiting
specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, as well
as starting in private practice as one of the early
members at Gabba Anaesthesia.
In 1998 he was invited to participate in a voluntary
mission to the Philippines to help repair cleft lips and
palates in children and this has continued to be a
regular part of his career. He has volunteered for
almost 50 missions with Interplast Australia and New
Zealand, Operation Smile and other charities in over 10
countries and was made a prestigious Paul Harris Fellow
by Rotary in recognition of this work.
In 2003, he was commissioned in the Royal Australian
Navy as a Reserve anaesthetist and has deployed on
peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance operations.
His aim is to provide expert and compassionate care to
all his patients.
Dr Moo was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia
(OAM) for service to medicine as an anaesthetist in the
Australia Day 2023 Honours List.

Dr. Thomas is a medical specialist with over 30 years
experience in anaesthesia, pain control, resuscitation,
and the management of medical emergencies. He graduated
as a doctor in 1986 at St. Bartholomews Hospital in
London, and as a consultant anaesthetist in 1998 at the
Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. His
aim is to provide a safe and comfortable anaesthetic.

Dr O’Toole qualified in medicine at St Bartholomew’s
Hospital in 1993 in London, UK. After a couple of years
as a junior doctor in the UK she travelled to Australia
with a friend and subsequently worked in Townsville, Mt
Isa and Redcliffe. Having met her husband to be in Mt
Isa she remained in Australia and obtained her
fellowship in Anaesthesia in 2004, having 2 babies along
her training journey.

Background
Dr Tanil grew up in Melbourne where she studied medicine
then undertook and completed her training in
anaesthesia. She trained at various hospitals in
Melbourne but was predominantly at The Alfred Hospital.
After this she went to Darwin as a consultant where she
worked for 3 years. She moved to Brisbane with her
family late 2005. She has worked in various hospitals
around Brisbane since March 2006 when she joined Gabba
Anaesthesia.

Dr Chris Breen’s areas of specialisation include
anaesthesia for procedures on the spine and spinal cord
(including major procedures such as fusion or scoliosis

surgery, vascular surgery, orthopaedic and sports
medicine, and trauma.
Background
Originally from Tasmania, after completing his medical
degree at the University of
Tasmania in 2002, Dr Chris Breen moved to Brisbane in
2003 where he began his
medical career working at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s
Hospital. Dr Breen’s
training in Anaesthesia began in 2006 after working in
the fields of General Surgery
and Intensive Care prior to this. He completed his
Fellowship in Hepatobiliary and
Liver Transplant Anaesthesia in 2011. Dr Breen currently
work publicly at the
Princess Alexandra Hospital and at all major Brisbane
Private Hospitals. His aim is to
ensure his patients feel safe and supported throughout

Dr Wong has a broad range of anaesthetic services with

the past he was also involved in Diving and Hyperbaric

Background
Dr Timujin (Tim) Wong has been a Specialist Anaesthetist
since 1996. He grew
up in Hobart. Dr Wong did a post specialist fellowship
in Peadiatric Anaesthesia
at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, Canada. In 1997 Dr
Wong returned to
Brisbane to commence private practice with the Gabba
Anaesthesia and
Senior Visitor Medical Officer (VMO) appointments at the
Princess Alexandra
and the Queensland Children’s (Previously Mater

Children’s) Hospitals. Tim also has clinical privileges

facilities in Brisbane and in 2018 he was appointed as a

Dr Tong graduated in

Background
Dr Nagy was born in Melbourne and completed his medical
degree at Monash University in 1994.
His training in anaesthesia was based at The Alfred
hospital in Melbourne during which he also
undertook at year of training at The Glasgow Royal
Infirmary in Scotland. To complete his
anaesthesia qualification, he undertook a fellowship
year at the Royal North Shore Hospital in
Sydney, participating in that hospital’s highly regarded
Sydney Clinical Skills Simulation Centre as a
teacher and facilitator.
Attila was fortunate to work as part of a great team
for six years at The Royal Darwin Hospital, NT,
for much of that time as a Supervisor of Training for
new anaesthesia trainees at that hospital and
also as the head of the Acute Pain Unit.
These days Attila works full time looking after surgeons
from a wide range of surgical specialties,
including bariatric (weight loss) surgery, ,urology,
plastics, upper and lower limb orthopaedics,
breast-endocrine and IVF/reproductive medicine.

Dr Huang is an Australian trained specialist
anaesthetist with a subspeciality fellowship who has
over 20 years of experience. In this time, he has worked
in both public (Princess Alexandra Hospital, The Prince
Charles Cardiac Transplant unit) as well as private
(Greenslopes Private Hospital, Mater Private, St
Andrews, St Vincent’s Northside, Brisbane Private, The
Wesley) hospitals. His wealth of experience encompasses
the full spectrum of anaesthesiology including but not
limited to open heart bypass and transplant surgery,
neurosurgery, all types of bariatric surgery, ear nose
and throat cancer surgery, complex plastic surgery as
well as paediatrics and high-volume day surgical
procedures. The patients he has cared for over the last
20 years ranged from babies to the very sick elderly who
required life saving procedures. He has been a long-term
member of the Gabba Anaesthesia group delivering the
highest level of health care to his patients.

Dr Ding graduated from the University of Melbourne

Dr Howes graduated from the University of Queensland
with a MBBS in 2003
after completing an undergraduate degree in pharmacy.
Following completion
of internship at Ipswich Hospital Dr Howes gained
extensive general medical
experience working in Bundaberg and Goondiwindi before
returning to Brisbane
to commence anaesthesia specialty training. Dr Howes
completed training and
was awarded Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand
College of
Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in January of 2013.
Dr Howes joined Gabba Anaesthesia in 2016 and has a diverse practice in both public and private medicine. Dr Howes is a Senior Staff Specialist at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane where he undertakes a broad range of adult sub specialty anaesthesia including colorectal surgery, hepato-biliary surgery, transplant anaesthesia and trauma. In private practice Dr Howes has a special interest in plastic surgery and regional anaesthesia.
Dr Howes is a Supervisor of Training for anaesthetic registrars at Princess Alexandra Hospital, a lecturer for the Queensland Primary Examination Preparation Course and is in the process of becoming a Examiner for the ANZCA Fellowship Exam.

Dr Kennedy completed his undergraduate and medical
degrees at the University of Queensland and undertook

becoming a consultant in 2001, Dr Foreman continued to
work in the retrieval and rescue field as well as mixed
public and private practice. He moved to Brisbane in
2007 and now work as a private anaesthetist with a
significant element of office based anaesthesia.

Background
Dr Whiting has been working full time as a Consultant
Anaesthetist since 1988.
He Spent 2 year in Edmonton, Canada as a Senior Lecturer
involved in research
and clinical anaesthesia before returning to the Royal
Brisbane & Women’s
Hospital in 1991 as a full time Consultant in
Anaesthesia. Over the next 10 years,
Dr Whiting was the Supervisor of Registrar Training at
the RBWH and was the
Acting Director of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care in
1998. He was also heavily
engaged in the design and commissioning of the new RBWH
Hospital.
In 2000, Dr Whiting began his full time private

particular interest in major trauma and

Background
Dr Sewell is a born and bred Queenslander who completed
all of her education and medical training in Brisbane.
She spent the majority of her anaesthetic speciality
training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, undertaking
a Fellowship in Vascular Anaesthesia in 2018. This
Fellowship involved care of the critically ill patient
for minor and major vascular surgery. She now is a
Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at The Prince Charles
Hospital and a private Anaesthetist at most major
private hospitals in Brisbane. Dr Sewell is also heavily
involved in the ongoing education of Anaesthetic
Trainees within the public hospital system.

Dr Lisa Webb is a general adult anaesthetist with a
special interest in Regional Anaesthesia (use of
ultrasound guided nerve block techniques to provide
optimal acute pain management/ used as an alternative to
general anaesthesia). She regularly provides anaesthesia
for orthopaedic surgery, colorectal, urologic, breast/
endocrine surgery in her public role and maintains an
interest in anaesthesia for vascular surgery, ophthalmic
(eye) surgery and ENT.
Background
Originally from Brisbane, Lisa underwent Anaesthesia
training at The Princess Alexandra Hospital, Mater
Adults/ Mothers, Queensland Children’s, The Prince
Charles, Lismore Base and Logan Hospitals. She completed
her provisional fellowship at the PAH in Upper GI
Anaesthesia during 2016- gaining valuable skills in
managing a busy tertiary operating theatre complex and
caring for the critically ill non-cardiac surgical
patient. During 2017 she undertook additional training
via a second fellowship in Regional Anaesthesia and Pain
Medicine at a major tertiary hospital in Toronto, Canada
(Sunnybrook/ Holland Orthopaedic Centre), where she
provided anaesthesia care for high volumes of elective
joint replacement, major trauma and neurosurgical
patients. Since then she has worked as a Staff
Specialist Anaesthetist at John Hunter Hospital
(Newcastle), VMO Anaesthetist at Lismore Base Hospital
and has since returned to Brisbane where she works as a
Staff Specialist at QEII Hospital and at all Major
Private Hospitals. Dr Webb is a conscientious and
self-sufficient anaesthetist who aims to work
collaboratively with her patients, surgeons and nurses
to provide safe high-level anaesthesia care in a relaxed
environment.

Dr Webb lives to eat. She loves culinary travel and will
travel far for a good bowl of laksa. She also thoroughly
enjoys long board surfing, sleep, South East Asian and
Italian cooking, running, wine, yoga, and watercolour
painting.

Background
Dr Paikin is a specialist anaesthetist in Brisbane. Born
and raised in South Africa, he moved to Australia in
1999 and completed his undergraduate degree in
Biomedical Science and postgraduate degree in Medicine
and Surgery at the University of Queensland. Dr Paikin
undertook his early training in Ipswich and further
specialty training in anaesthesia and ICU with the
Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in
Toowoomba and Brisbane. He completed his fellowship in
Vascular Anaesthesia at the Princess Alexandra Hospital
in Brisbane. He is a Fellow of the Australian and New
Zealand College of Anaesthetists and a member of the
Australian Society of Anaesthetists. Dr Paikin is
currently a private anaesthetist at most major private
hospitals and maintains a Staff Specialist position at
the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. He is an
Associate Lecturer with the University of Queensland and
coordinates the Princess Alexandra Hospital anaesthetic
primary exam teaching program. Dr Paikin is supported by
his wife Philippa and his two children and are proud to
call Brisbane their home.

Background :
Dr Sadam is a specialist anaesthetist in Brisbane. Born
in India, he moved to Australia in 2007 and completed
his medical degree at the University of New England in
2012. He undertook his early training on the central
coast in NSW, and moved to Brisbane via Darwin to
complete his specialty training with an ENT/airway
fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2020.
He also completed a paediatric fellowship at Queensland
Children's Hospital in 2021 before commencing as a staff
specialist at The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
He is also a private anaesthetist at most major private
hospitals in Brisbane.
Other Interests:

Background
Originally from Mackay, Dr James Booth completed his
medical degree at Griffith University on the Gold Coast
in 2012. Dr Booth did his anaesthetic specialty training
at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Lismore Base
Hospital, Mater Public Hospital and Queensland
Children’s Hospital. Dr James Booth undertook his
provisional fellowship at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital,
Sydney in upper GI/Hepatobiliary and ENT/airway. He
returned to Brisbane with his young family at the
beginning of 2022 and joined QEII hospital as a staff
specialist. He also is a private specialist working in
most of the major private hospitals in South East
Queensland.

Background
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Dr James Marckwald
completed a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biomedical
science at UQ and attended Griffith Uni Medical School
on the Gold Coast as the part of the first cohort. Dr
Marckwald worked at several locations throughout
Queensland during his junior doctor years. He completed
his anaesthetic training in Darwin and Brisbane with a
general anaesthetic fellowship at Queen Elizabeth II
Jubilee Hospital in 2021.

Smith holds a special interest in providing anaesthetic
care for vascular surgery, head and neck surgery, ear
nose and throat surgery, and ophthalmologic surgery.
Background
Dr Smith was born and raised on the Sunshine Coast
before moving to Sydney to pursue undergraduate medical
university studies. She completed anaesthesia training
across several major Sydney hospitals including St
George Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, Westmead
Children’s Hospital and The Royal Hospital for Women.
She further honed her skills through an anaesthesia
fellowship at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in 2018
specialising in major vascular surgery, head and neck
surgery, and ear nose and throat surgery. Following the
successful completion of her fellowship in 2019, Dr
Smith secured a position as a Specialist Anaesthetist at
Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and also established a
successful private practice in Sydney. In 2023 Dr Smith
decided to return to her roots and relocated to her home
state of Queensland. She currently serves as a Staff
Specialist Anaesthetist at The Princess Alexandra
Hospital and a private anaesthetist at most major
hospitals in Brisbane. In addition to her clinical
responsibilities, Dr Smith is committed to education and
mentorship within the field of anaesthesia. She holds a
senior lecturer appointment at the University of
Queensland and is actively involved in teaching medical
students, trainee and specialist anaesthetists. She
serves as an instructor for the ANZCA Effective
Management of Anaesthetic Crisis course, sharing her
teaching expertise to enhance patient safety and
outcomes. Dr Smith blends clinical proficiency with a
compassionate approach to patient care.

Dr Ghaly is a general anaesthetist. Particular interests
include upper GI surgery and endoscopic interventional
procedures as well as urological, colorectal, bariatric
(obesity), gynaecological, plastics, ophthalmic (eye)
and oral surgeries.
Background
Dr Ghaly is a staff specialist anaesthetist with the
Princess Alexandra Hospital. She completed her
fellowship there in general anaesthesia with a focus on
Upper GI surgery and anaesthesia for interventional
endoscopy. Her anaesthesia training sites included The
Princess Alexandra Hospital, The Gold Coast University
Hospital and the Tweed Hospital (NSW). Dr Ghaly
completed her MBBS at The University of Sydney. She was
born in Sydney and raised in regional NSW.
Dr Ghaly is a warm, diligent and personable
anaesthetist. She is very active in Primary Exam
curriculum teaching and mentorship.
Other Interests
Outside of work Dr Ghaly loves spending time with her
young family. She loves to cook – particularly desserts
and (thankfully) is a keen runner.

Dr Trott holds a special interest in vascular, orthopaedic, general and ophthalmologic surgery as well as regional anaesthesia, point-of-care ultrasound, and post-operative anaesthetic care.
Background
Dr Trott moved to Brisbane in 2018 to undertake anaesthesia training. He completed his training across several major Brisbane hospitals including the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Mater South Brisbane Hospital and the Queensland Children’s Hospital. He undertook an anaesthesia fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2021 specialising in vascular surgery and regional anaesthesia. Following the successful completion of his fellowship in 2022, Dr Trott undertook a further 6-month fellowship in Paediatric Anaesthesia. He currently serves as a Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at The Princess Alexandra Hospital and a private anaesthetist at most major hospitals in Brisbane. He is actively involved in the training of medical students and is a lecturer with the University of Queensland School of Medicine, Southern Clinical Unit.

Dr Bell provides anaesthetic care across a wide range of surgical specialties, including general surgery, gynaecology, orthopaedic, urological, plastic and trauma surgery. She has particular subspecialty experience in hepatobiliary, liver transplant and regional anaesthesia.
Background
Dr Bell completed her medical degree at the University of Auckland and undertook anaesthesia training throughout the Auckland region. She subsequently completed subspecialty fellowships in hepatobiliary, liver transplant and regional anaesthesia in both New Zealand and Australia, and obtained her Fellowship with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2022.
In 2023, Dr Bell relocated to Brisbane and is now a Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at Princess Alexandra Hospital, with private practice appointments at major hospitals across Brisbane.
Dr Bell is committed to delivering calm, compassionate and evidence-based care, ensuring patients feel informed and supported throughout their surgical journey. Her professional interests also include medical leadership and administration, reflected in her Associate Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (AFRACMA).
Other Interests
Outside of work, Dr Bell enjoys time with her husband and their blended family of four children, and exploring Queensland’s great outdoors. She also enjoys DIY projects and can often be found at Bunnings on weekends, tackling the never-ending task of renovating their Queenslander home.
